What an activity test covers
An activity test (sometimes called a task-completion test) walks someone through a workflow on their own device. They read your prompt, complete the task, and optionally record their screen or camera with a tool of their choice.
What participants do
- Read the scenario and goals you provide.
- Jump into the live URL you share.
- Work through the task until they consider it complete, leaving notes as needed.
What you learn
You see real navigation paths, where hesitation occurs, and how long it takes to finish. When paired with optional screen recordings you also collect tone of voice and emotional cues.
Best practices
- Keep each prompt focused on a single outcome.
- Remind participants they can mark the task complete when they feel done.
- Ask for a short reflection about what felt easy or frustrating.
